Bristol Parent Carers is your local Parent Carer Forum. We are run by a group of parent carers who care for children and young people with disabilities and special needs.
We work together as partners with Bristol City Council and NHS Bristol to shape the services provided for our families – this is called ‘parent carer participation’.
What is participation?
Parent Carer participation is a way to get us where we need to go – to a place where our lives are improved. To do this we must consider how involved we (as users of a service) are with the providers of a service. If users have the idea for a service and help to design it – this is Participation with the most involvement from parent carers.
Why it matters
By participating, parent carers can have a voice and make a difference. Our involvement gives service providers a greater understanding and insight into our needs. Participation empowers parent carers and brings about improved service provision, and hopefully improved outcomes for the whole family.
We are always looking for new parent carers to get involved:
- Become a member and receive our emails and newsletters
- Join our steering group
- Join a focus group
- Attend one of our events
- Come along to our support monthly group
- Help out in the office
- Offer any skills and time that you have!
